BOISE -- Firefighters from Austin, Texas are in the City of Trees to train with Boise fire crews.

The eight members of Austin's Wildland Fire Division are in town as part of a Fire Adapted Communities learning exchange.

Firefighters took part in classroom activities Monday, and are slated to get outside Tuesday for a training scenario. The focus of the trip is on fire mitigation in areas where wilderness comes into contact with homes and urban areas.

Firefighters from both capitals say it's important to learn from each other's experiences.

"We tried to bring in a pretty decent snapshot of our department so we can all gain those experiences," Austin Fire Capt. Josh Portie said. "It's one thing for our division to be constantly talking about what we need to do and how we need to do it, but for those folks to be taken out and brought up here to learn from the folks that are doing it as well, really resonates a lot better."

Earlier this year, a group of Boise firefighters visited Austin as part of the exchange.
