After horrific crash, local woman has a long road to recovery

A young woman is currently not able to use her arms or legs after a horrific crash.

BOISE - A local woman has a long road to recovery ahead of her after being hit in a head-on collision in a horrific car crash that we first reported on last week.

Meridian police say a man in a Ford Taurus, Lawrence Lee Morton Jr., drove into oncoming traffic at the intersection of Ustick and Locust Grove roads last Tuesday, striking a Dodge Avenger. Morton died at the scene.

Nineteen-year-old Jackie Aguila was in the Avenger and she's lucky to be alive.

"I didn't even see the car," Aguila said. "I was just looking to my right, and he came from my left. I heard he was going 60 mph and just slammed right into me. All I remember was opening my eyes and I was scrunched."

After being cut out of the car, Aguila was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.

"I broke both legs, the femurs, both my knees got smashed in, I broke some toes on my left foot, my right foot was completely smashed, I'm having surgery on my heel in a few days because it got smashed like a pancake, I broke my humerus on my left arm," says Aguila.

Since the accident, Aguila has undergone four surgeries and has several more planned.

For the past week, her life has been put on hold. Aguila is completely unable to use her arms or legs and can't return to her work as a caregiver.

"I didn't deserve this at all and I still got pretty hurt," says Aguila.

Aguila has insurance, but anticipates her bills exceeding what it will cover. Her family has set up a GoFundMe account with a $10,000 goal.

"I still keep a smile on my face, always laughing. I am not letting it make me depressed but I am upset about it but it’s not ruining my mental health," says Aguila.
