BAKER CITY, Ore. -- Police are investigating after a Baker City boy was found dead at the town's skate park Wednesday afternoon.
The body of the 14-year-old was found at the Sam-O Park skate park area at about 4:30 p.m. Authorities say the boy lived about a mile away from the skate park.
The boy's cause of death has not been released. Police have not said whether they believe he was the victim of foul play, although the Baker County Major Crime Team is currently assigned to investigate the death.
Baker City Police have asked anyone who was at the Baker City skate park or dog park near the Sam-O-Swim center between midnight and 4 p.m. Wednesday to contact investigators if they have any information.
The department also tried to lay to rest rumors that other students in Baker City could be in danger.
"BCPD would like to assure the citizens of Baker City that at this time there is no threat to the students attending our local schools," the department posted. "There have been rumors circulating about a possible threat to students in relation to the current investigation being conducted by the Baker County Major Crime Team into the death of a young man. The safety and security of our schools is of the utmost importance."
