Keith Bird Legacy Park opens in Meridian

The 7.5-acre park is named for the long-time city councilman.

The city of Meridian held a grand opening celebration today for a new park.

The 7.5-acre park - named the Keith Bird Legacy Park - is in the Bainbridge subdivision in north Meridian, and is a tribute to the long-time Meridian city councilman.

Bird will be retiring from city council at the end of his current term -- finishing 20 years of elected public service.

"Words cannot express the feeling I have at this time,” said Bird. “This is something that, you know, I knew I live in the greatest community, but you know this is just an honor that's unbelievable."

Speakers at today's grand opening included Meridian Mayor Tammy de Weerd and City Council President Keith Bird himself -- among others.
