Idaho Lottery celebrates 30 years by trying to set a new world record

On July 19, the Idaho Lottery tried to break the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people scratching scratch cards at once.

BOISE, Idaho — The Idaho Lottery celebrated 30 years on July 19 and tried to break a Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people scratching scratch cards at once.

Jeff Anderson, the Idaho Lottery's director, said, "Those who come, the public is invited, they'll all get one ticket to scratch for free and leading up to that event we've got the fastest scratcher in Idaho contest going on around Idaho and there will be 128 finalists who will come to Boise from all over the Gem State on buses to participate in this."

Since the Idaho Lottery was started in 1989, over $900,000,000 has been raised for Idaho public schools.

To celebrate its 30th birthday, hundreds gathered at Payette Brewing to break the world record of most scratchers scratched at once.

It will be a few weeks until the world record will be verified by the Guinness World Records.
