BURLEY - A Heyburn man is charged with felony aggravated battery after a woman said she jumped from a moving car to escape the man as he hit her in the face.

The Idaho State Journal reports that Orlando Shaw was charged after Cassia County Sheriff's deputies responded to the hospital Thursday regarding a "severely injured" woman.

The woman said the only way to escape him was to jump from the vehicle. She suffered facial injuries, a broken arm and multiple cuts and scrapes.

Shaw told officers they went for a drive and got into an argument. He said she dropped her cell phone, unbuckled her seat belt and opened the door to get the phone. He said the wind caught her and she fell out of the car. He says he never hit her.

A preliminary hearing in the case is set for Aug. 10 in Cassia County Magistrate Court.
