Thieves steal local girls soccer team's uniforms

The Idaho Rush Premier Team was in the Bay Area for a tournament when their rental van was broken into.

BOISE - A local girls soccer team is now out uniforms and equipment after their gear was stolen this weekend in California.

The Idaho Rush Premier Team flew into Oakland early Friday morning.

After landing, the players, who are 13-years-old, went to a local breakfast spot in their rental van.

After they finished eating, Lily Rob, a team parent, says they went to the parking lot only to find their rental van had been broken into.

"I was just shocked, then safety of the girls, are they still there trying to get stuff out, are they nearby, so we huddled the girls together who are bawling, hysterical, purses were gone, bags were gone, but the biggest concern immediately was the fact, clearly soccer bags were gone. The girls had worked so hard, traveled all this way to play soccer, and it’s kind of hard to play without your gear," said Rob.

The thieves made off with iPads, computers, purses, clothing, shoes and all of the team uniforms.

Luckily the team coach, Rob Hill, was still in Boise and was able to bring some backup uniforms on a flight later that day.

Despite what happened, Hill says the experience actually turned out to be a positive one, thanks to the generous Oakland community.

"We just had people out of the blue emailing. This guy Ben Jay turned up and asked if we were the team that got broken into and he handed me an envelope with $200 and was just a kind guy, we have had other people email and ask how they can help," said Hill.

This weekend's tournament was a pre-curser for state cup, which is the third weekend in May.

The team has until then to get new uniforms and gear.
