TWIN FALLS -- Investigators with the Twin Falls Police Department have determined that a woman was not telling the truth when she described being abducted and forced into a van by two men Tuesday evening.
The woman, whose name has not yet been released, told officers the unidentified men kidnapped her from the area of 6th Avenue West and Shoshone Street South, duct taped her, and put her in a full-size white van. She said she was able to get out of the van and escape her captors in the 200 block of Canyon Street.
Police originally asked for the public's help in solving the case, even releasing a surveillance photo of a possible suspect vehicle. But by Wednesday afternoon, police announced that the woman's report had been false, and no kidnapping actually happened.
There is no ongoing threat to the public, according to the department.
Police also said that the white van in the photo released by investigators was not involved in any crime, and the van's owners had cooperated fully with law enforcement.
Lt. Terry Thueson said in a statement that the department had to take the report seriously when the woman said she had been abducted.
"We always treat these reports as true until evidence proves the allegations are false," he said.
The investigation into the situation is ongoing, and it is not yet clear whether the woman will be charged with filing a false report.
