Teen killed in Mountain Home rollover

Another boy, who was riding in the passenger seat, suffered serious head injuries, investigators say.

MOUNTAIN HOME, Idaho — One teenager is dead and another is badly hurt after a rollover crash on Interstate 84 Saturday.

The crash happened just before 5 p.m. in Mountain Home.

According to the Elmore County Sheriff's Office, a 17-year-old boy was driving east when he lost control of his vehicle "for an unknown reason." The teen overcorrected and swerved off the right side of the road, where his vehicle rolled.

The 17-year-old was thrown from the vehicle during the crash. Paramedics rushed him to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, but he died from his injuries at the hospital.  

The Ada County coroner identified the crash victim as Mayson Martinez.

A 16-year-old boy who was riding as a passenger in the vehicle also suffered "extensive head injuries" in the rollover. He was able to get himself out of the vehicle, and was taken by ambulance to St. Luke's Elmore in Mountain Home.

The 16-year-old is expected to survive, according to the Elmore County Sheriff's Office.

Neither boy was wearing a seatbelt, according to authorities.

The wreck remains under investigation.
