BOISE - A Boise couple was arrested after the Ada County Sheriff's Office said deputies found drugs and guns near the couple's infant son during a traffic stop Monday night on Eagle Road.
Nigel and Karissa Peters' car was pulled over in the 1700 block of S. Eagle Road around 10 p.m.
Deputies said they they saw the northbound car swerve across the line on the east side of the road before slowing down abruptly and then making a sudden left turn on to East Tarpon Drive.
Deputies found that Nigel Peters had an outstanding arrest warrant for a parole violation.
Karissa Peters was driving, and the couple’s 5-month-old son was in a car seat in the back.
A K-9 dog detected drugs in the car, and the sheriff's office said deputies found about 9 ounces of heroin, about 13 grams of of cocaine and a small amount of bath salts.
Most of the heroin was found in the baby’s diaper bag.
Two handguns and various items of drug paraphernalia also were found.
The couple's son was declared to be in imminent danger because he was near the drugs and guns, the sheriff's office said. He was placed in the custody of the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.
The couple was arrested and booked into the Ada County Jail. They are charged with felony counts of drug trafficking - heroin - and possession of a controlled substance.
They were set to make their initial court appearances Tuesday afternoon.
The crime of trafficking heroin is punishable by up to life in prison.
