Police: Man with knife shot and killed in eastern Idaho

PRESTON, Idaho — Authorities in eastern Idaho say law enforcement officers shot and killed a man who threatened them with a knife.

Pocatello police say 50-year-old Raul Antonio Menjivar Saabedra died outside the Stokes Grocery in Preston Tuesday night.

Police say Menjivar Saabedra worked at a dairy in Grace.

Pocatello police say officers with the Preston Police Department and deputies with the Franklin County sheriff’s office responded at about 8:30 p.m. to a report of a suspicious man at the store.

Police report that officers escorted the man outside where he pulled a knife and was shot after a Taser failed to subdue him.

The Pocatello Police Department is leading an investigation by local law enforcement agencies into the shooting.
