Idaho State Police troopers seized more than 200 pounds of marijuana and arrested a Minnesota man during a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon in Canyon County.

Troopers stopped a black 1997 GMC Savana on eastbound Interstate 84 near milepost 30 in Caldwell around noon.

Inside the SUV, police found 226 pounds of marijuana. They arrested Dakota Thorstenson, 23, of Duluth, Minn. He was booked into the Canyon County Jail on drug trafficking charges.

The Caldwell Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit assisted in the investigation.

State police say marijuana trafficking continues to be one of their major focuses now that the drug is legal in some neighboring states.

In 2017, troopers seized more than 1,400 pounds of marijuana, which is more than the total seized in the previous three years combined.
