Two people are facing felony charges after police say they brought a newborn baby home to a house that officials determined to be unsafe.

Boise Police officers were called out to the home May 10 to assist the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare on an investigation at the home, located on West Silver City Drive.

Once inside, officers determined that "living conditions inside the home were unsafe for a newborn baby," according to the department. The infant was taken into the custody of Health and Welfare.

The investigation was forwarded to the Ada County Prosecutor's Office, which ultimately issued warrants for 28-year-old Shonalee Petet and 33-year-old Charles Wrath.

Wrath and Petet were arrested Tuesday on felony injury to a child charges, and booked into the Ada County Jail.

Boise Police spokesman Ryan Larrondo did not give specifics on the conditions inside the suspects' house, but generalized that issues like mold, human or animal feces, fire hazards, unsanitary food preparation areas can trigger injury to child charges.

Petet and Wrath are due to appear in court Thursday afternoon.
