NAMPA -- A Nampa man is in the Canyon County Jail after police say a woman told officers he sexually assaulted her in June.

Austin Michael Brown, 22, was arrested Wednesday on a felony rape charge.

According to court documents, the woman told officers on June 15 that Brown had raped her days prior after inviting her over to his house. The woman said once she arrived at the home, Brown picked her up and carried her upstairs before forcibly removing her clothing and having sex with her against her will.

The woman said she repeatedly told Brown to stop and tried to fight him off, but he held her down.

In an interview with detectives in July, Brown at first denied that he had had sex with the woman, then admitted to the incident, police say. He later said he had thought the encounter was consensual, telling police the woman had told him "no" but that it wasn't a "hard no," according to court documents.

A warrant was issued for Brown's arrest Aug. 19. He was taken into custody Wednesday, and remains held on a $75,000 bond. If convicted of rape, he could face up to life in prison.

Brown is due back in court Sept. 21.
