Keepin' it Local: RamaPong to serve up ping pong and ramen in downtown Boise

RamaPong - downstairs from Boise Fry Company - is set to offer upscale ramen, a full bar and a place for guests to take a swing at ping pong.

BOISE, Idaho — After announcing that Boise Fry Company is expanding into Oregon and more restaurants in Idaho, its CEO is unveiling a new concept, just downstairs from the downtown Boise location on Capitol Boulevard and Idaho Street.

The company is planning to open up RamaPong in the coming months. It will be a new restaurant that features a full-service bar, upscale ramen - and gives guests a chance to unwind with a game of ping pong.

"Think of a basement bar with 105-year-old limestone down there. We really want to feature that," Boise Fry Company CEO Brad Walker said. "It'll be a full-service bar. It'll have clean new modern lines and four ping pong tables absolutely. And we plan on doing tournaments and have a league."

"I think it's been an overlooked game but I think if it's presented in a nice atmosphere I think people are gonna want to play," Walker said.

Buzz around RamaPong has been circulating since 2016, but opening dates have been pushed forward since.

An opening date has not been set yet. Work is well under way to renovate the downstairs portion of the building for the restaurant.
