Xanti started his career in the studio at KTVB in 1997. The fast-paced action and impossible deadlines fascinated him, and he soon moved on to become a news photographer.
Just a few years later, he was promoted to Chief Photographer. Since then, he has covered 4 Olympics, both Fiesta Bowls and hundreds of stories from Ensenada to Shanghai.
Xanti has received several awards from the Idaho Press Club, Society of Professional Journalists, National Press Photographer's Association, Idaho State Broadcasters Association as well as a National Murrow award and an Emmy.
Since becoming News Operations Manager and Director of Photography, Xanti spends less time in the field and more time planning coverage in the newsroom, but he still takes the satellite truck and his camera out to the far reaches of our market and beyond.
A proud Idahoan, Xanti was born in Boise to Basque parents in 1976, and has been heavily involved in the Basque community ever since. He was a long time member of the Oinkari Basque Dancers and Euzkaldunak (the Basque Center).
He spends free time playing cards; rooting for the Atlanta Braves, San Francisco 49ers the Boise State Broncos and Chelsea; playing handball; being with friends and family; reading recipes and cooking (and eating). If he's not in the newsroom or the satellite truck, it's likely you'll find him on the Basque Block.
Xanti has many friends and family who live in the Treasure Valley including his wife, Jill Aldape whom he met for the first time at the ripe old age of two…..at the Basque Center.
