Crashes keep troopers busy in southern Idaho

Idaho State Police have been dealing with numerous crashes and slideoffs Saturday evening as temperatures drop and roads become slick with snow and ice.

ISP troopers responded to several crashes on Interstate 84 between Boise and Mountain Home. I-84 was blocked in both directions between exits 60 and 90 for about two hours because of black ice. It reopened at about 10:40 p.m..

The I-184 connector in and out of downtown Boise was shut down shortly after 7:30 p.m. because of icy conditions and the number of emergency responses. It reopened just before 9 p.m.

Agencies within Ada County have responded to at least eight crashes on the connector, and a total of 15 elsewhere, including I-84.

Details on injuries and the exact number of crashes were not immediately available, but an ISP dispatcher said "if you don't have to be out, don't."

A winter storm contributing to the crashes in the Treasure Valley has headed southeast, and beginning to affect conditions on highways in the Magic Valley as well, with icy patches and snow on the roadway in many areas. I-84 heading into Utah had packed snow.
