BOISE -- A 26-year-old is facing felony charges after police say he led them on a pursuit Monday morning that ended only when they used spike strips to disable his vehicle.

The incident started at about 6:40 a.m. when an Idaho State Police trooper tried to pull over Raymond James Hupp of Garden City on eastbound I-84 before the Orchard Street exit.

Instead of stopping, however, police say Hupp kept driving east, prompting a police chase. Troopers put down spike strips near the Gowen Road exit to halt Hupp.

The suspect hit the spike strips, disabling his vehicle, and was quickly taken into custody. The exit was blocked while troopers arrested Hupp and investigated the scene.

Hupp was booked into the Ada County Jail on felony charges of eluding and drug possession, as well as misdemeanors for driving underthe influence, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to provide proof of insurance.

Hupp is due to appear in court Tuesday afternoon.
