Statement from the Bergdahl Family, to include Bowe's girlfriend Monica

June 30th, 2010, Hailey, Idaho

Today marks one year since our only son, Bowe Bergdahl, was taken into captivity.  He has not been forgotten for even one of these past 365 days - not by our family, not by our neighbors in the Wood River Valley and Idaho, not by our elected leaders in Boise and Washington, and not by his colleagues.

We have had tremendous support from our family, our friends, P.O.W. and M.I.A. groups, and our community.  It lifts our spirits each time we see the streets of our hometown and valley covered in yellow ribbons, knowing they're there for Bowe and our family.

Over the past year, we've received many cards, letters and emails from around Idaho, America and overseas and we take great comfort in knowing that people care about Bowe and about us.  People from all over the world have written us wonderful letters of support, and many of these people have experienced similar ordeals and great personal trials.  We appreciate their sacrifices, and we are thankful they reached out to us.

We've also heard wonderful words of encouragement.  It was uplifting to hear the story of how a prisoner of war used his imagination to ride his Harley Davidson and even perform a complete engine overhaul, all while existing for years in a solitary confinement cell.

We have no choice but to rise and meet the challenges that come to us.  We believe this is what Bowe has done and we're following his lead.  We're trying to find courage and be patient while doing everything we can to keep hope during this difficult situation.

Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers for Bowe Bergdahl and for us, his family.
