MERIDIAN, Idaho -- A big mess is left behind after deputies say a man and woman crashed their car into a family home in Meridian.
Ada County Sheriff’s deputies say 22-year-old Joseph Reed was the driver and 19-year-old Amanda Rippey was his passenger.
Both are facing charges of DUI and leaving the scene of an accident.
"I was sleeping, and I heard a loud crash," said resident Matt Yager.
That loud crash was a red Pontiac Sunfire that slammed into the front of Matt’s house.
"I came around the corner and my first thought was that the fireplace exploded, to be honest. Because when I turned the corner I saw smoke and a lot of light from the headlights. Which I didn't see until I turned the corner in the family room," said Yager.
Matt along with other neighbors ran to the car to see if anyone was injured.
"They ran, cause I ran outside and my neighbor was out there. We opened the door and there was nobody in there, so they took off running," said Yager.
Police arrested Reed and Rippey several blocks away near Locust Grove and Franklin roads.
Crews towed the car and Matt and his parents stayed somewhere else for the rest of the morning.
What's left behind now is big hole in their family room.
“It's destroyed down there, insulation, headlights, car, always a strange situation to wake up to at 2:30 in the morning. It's a car in your house, it's something you don't see. Everything is destroyed, nothing looks the same," said Yager.
Even though Rippey wasn't driving at the time of the accident, she is charged with DUI. Deputies say she admitted that she had been drinking and driving earlier in the night.
Both Rippey and Reed have bonded out of jail. Amazingly, no one was injured.
