EDMONDS, Wash. -- An 82-year-old woman slipped and fell about 75 feet down a steep embankment Wednesday morning and survived with only a few scratches.
Dee Wells reached down to pull some weeds near the embankment, which is right outside of her home on 196th Street SW in Edmonds.
"I just tumbled all the way down," she said. "I just kept rolling and bouncing all the way down the hill."
Because no one saw her fall, Wells was stuck on the embankment for nearly five hours, until a neighbor finally spotted her bright red hair and called the fire department.
Firefighters with Snohomish County Fire District 1 used ropes and harnesses to haul Wells to safety.
"She did most of the work herself, which was amazing," said rescuer Erik Arcus.
Wells suffered only some swelling on her hands and other body parts, but refused a trip to the hospital.
"That's a waste of time," she said with a laugh. "I just want to go in and take a nap."
