BOISE -- The fifth year of the Ironman Boise event will see hundreds of triathletes hustling through the City of Trees on Saturday.

Organizers say besides the talented athletes and intense competititon, folks should be on the lookout for road closures and other traffic impacts related to the 70.3 mile race.

Those impacts include detours, flagging, and delays along the biking and running courses both in downtown Boise and on State Hwy. 21 going to Idaho City.

According to ITD media representative Reed Hollingshead, Hwy. 21 won't feature any complete closures, but there will be restrictions near between Technology Drive in east Boise and the Lucky Peak Diversion Dam.

"Just to be patient, and allow yourself more time to reach your destination," Hollingshead advised KTVB.

ACHD Media Representative Christine Myron says areas most impacted in Boise include the downtown core.

"The downtown area is a little bit tricky due to the number of closures," Myron said, indicating that congestion on Saturday would likely be worsened due to the popular Capital City Market being held in conjunction with the event.

Myron said an extra ACHD traffic engineer is scheduled to monitor and adjust traffic signals throughout the event to promote better traffic flow.
