BOISE -- Former Boise State men's basketball player Ryan Watkins is taking his game overseas.

Through direct message, Watkins confirmed that he signed a professional contract with Aris Leeuwarden of the Dutch Basketball League, on Sunday.

"I chose Aris because I believe it will be a good place for me to start my career," Watkins said. "It is a good organization that helps guys move forward."

In 2013, the 6-foot-9 forward was named to the All-Mountain West second team. He averaged 11.9 points per game and 10.6 rebounds per game, becoming the first Bronco to average a double-double since the 1971-72 season.

The DBL is the highest professional basketball league in the Netherlands. Leeuwarden is the capital city of the province of Friesland, located in the northern part of the Netherlands.

Watkins is expected to report to the team on Aug. 30.

"I am beyond excited and can't wait to get out there and play the game that I live," Watkins said.
