BOISE-- The Idaho Steelheads will open the first round of the ECHL Kelly Cup playoffs at home this weekend. The fourth-seeded Steelheads will take on the fifth-seeded Colorado Eagles for the second straight year in the opening round.

Game 1 will be played on Friday night at CenturyLink Arena, with Game 2 scheduled for Saturday.

The Steelheads have faced the Eagles nine times during the regular season, and won seven of the contests.

The same two teams squared off in last year s opening round. Idaho won the series in six games.

Rapuzzi named ECHL Rookie of the Year


Idaho Steelheads forward William Rapuzzi was named ECHL Rookie of the Year on Monday, garnering the honors for the first time in team history.

Rapuzzi finished the season tied for second in scoring in the league (58 points) and tops in assists (42). He also led the ECHL in shootout goals, making seven out of ten attempts. His 58 points led the Steelheads this season.
