GARDEN CITY -- No people were injured when a mobile home caught fire in Garden City, but at least two of the resident's pets died in the blaze.

Dispatchers say the fire was reported just after 11 a.m. at 3935 North Reed Street.

Boise Fire Battalion Chief Tom Pawek said first responders spotted a column of smoke as they raced toward the fire, and arrived to find half of it in flame.

Still, firefighters were able to rapidly contain the fire with hand lines.

"They were able to knock it down pretty quickly," Pawek said.

The trailer's residents were not home when the fire started. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and Pawek said it's not yet clear if flames sparked from the inside or the outside.

Boise Fire spokeswoman Tammy Berry said a dog and a cat perished in the fire. The fate of several other animals, including two birds, a snake and a turtle, is unknown.
