BOISE -- An 11-year-old boy from Coeur d'Alene has been working hard to raise awareness of Type 1 diabetes, especially for children who are coping with diabetes.
That hard work paid off Thursday afternoon.
First Lady Lori Otter honored Carson Magee in a ceremony at the Statehouse.
She proclaimed Aug. 14 as "Type 1 Diabetes Awareness Day" in Idaho. As a result of Carson's efforts the governor is working on a diabetes awareness event once the Legislature is back in session.
"Basically, there going to be endocrinologists there, JDRF people - the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation - and families with Type 1 Diabetes to answer questions and talk about what Type 1 diabetes is," Carson said.
Last year, Carson went to Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. to talk to congressmen about support for Type 1 Diabetes awareness programs.
