BOISE-- Residents who were evacuated from their homes due to a gas leak have been allowed to go home, police say.

The leak occurred when a backhoe hit a gas main near the intersection of Cole Road and Mountain View Drive at about 9:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Crews are working now to repair the main, but the gas has been shut off. Power was shut off in the area over concerns of fire risk, but has since been turned back on.

A total of ten people and three pets were evacuated Wednesday morning.

Currently, northbound Cole Road is closed at Ustick Road and Mountain View Drive is closed at Glenwood Street and Clement Road. Drivers should avoid the area.

A separate gas leak was reported near Orchard Street and I-84. Police are closing streets in the area until the line is fixed.

Boise Police say 10 homes have been evacuated in the area as a precaution.
