EMMETT -- Gem County Coroner John Buck says that 34-year-old Joshua Shaw of Emmett accidentally drowned Tuesday evening while swimming in Sawyers Pond.

The pond is located on West Sales Yard Road between Airport Road and Mill Road just southwest of Emmett.

Gem County sheriff's deputies and the county's dive rescue team recovered Shaw's body at approximately 10:20 Tuesday night.

Friends first reported Shaw missing around 8:15 p.m. Sheriff's deputies arrived to help them search about 15 minutes later.

Friends say Shaw was trying to swim from one side of the pond to the other -- a distance of about 100 yards -- when he disappeared about 30 yards from shore.

Authorities are investigating drowning death as an accident. They say alcohol may have been a factor in Shaw's drowning.
