BOISE -- A New Meadows woman who was charged with stealing $138,910 from the Social Security Administration pleaded guilty to theft in federal court Wednesday.

Melinda Sue Priddy's grandmother died in May 2004, but the money from her Social Security survivor benefits continued to flow monthly into a joint bank account shared by the two women.

Priddy, 45, didn't inform anyone with Social Security that her grandmother was dead, and continued to pocket the money for almost nine years. She used it for personal expenses, even though she was not entitled to receive any of the benefits, prosecutors say.

She was arrested in May 2013. Priddy could face up to ten years in federal prison at an Oct. 20 sentencing.
