BOISE -- There is a push going on right now for Idaho to be known for more than just it's famous potatoes when it comes to food.

Idaho is taking part in a pilot program which authorizes Greek yogurt to be served in schools.

Sen. Mike Crapo joined with State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Luna Tuesday and officials from Chobani and the United Dairymen of Idaho to talk about the program.

For the first time, popular Greek yogurt will be available as a protein addition to school menus around the state.

Chobani, with the world's largest Greek yogurt production facility employing more than 600 people in Twin Falls, won the competitive bid to supply pilot project.

Crapo says the program will be a boon for the state.

This is the kind of announcement I like to be able to participate in -- a win-win-win. A win for the kids, a win for the state and its economy, and a win for jobs and two important industries in this state, said Crapo.

If the program is successful here in Idaho, it could be expanded to other states, and possibly nationwide.

Crapo says if that happens, Idaho will continue to benefit, especially the dairy industry and the Twin Falls Chobani plant.
