COVINGTON, Wash. -- Kentwood High School in Covington sent students home Friday morning after school officials received an email that threatened a hostage takeover and blood bath.

Administrators say threats like this are relatively common, but this caught the attention of authorities because of how specific it was. The email said there would be a bloodbath in a common area around lunchtime.

The school was shut down and parents were advised to pick up their children. King County Sheriff's spokesperson Cindi West said K-9 units were dispatched to the scene and deputies were searching the school. So far nothing has been found.

KIng County sheriff's officials say they may have traced the email to a former student who may have hacked into another former student's account to send the message. After Columbine and Sandy Hook, authorties are taking threats like these very seriously.

Sheriff's officials say if this is determined to be a hoax and they find out who it is, that person could be charged with a felony.
