BOISE -- A Twin Falls businessman convicted for tax evasion has been ordered by a federal judge to spend 27 months in prison and pay more than $429,000 in restitution.

The sentence was handed down Wednesday in the case of 41-year-old Justin Schoenauer, who operated a home building company called Patagonia Construction. Records show he is also known as Corey Schoenauer.

In previous court appearances, Schoenauer pleaded guilty to concealing the company's business receipts during tax years 2005 through 2008. He also admitted telling some customers to make payments to him personally instead of the company to help conceal income.

He was also ordered to serve three years of supervision upon his release from prison.

U.S. Attorney Wendy Olson says the sentence sends a strong message to potential tax cheats.
