COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho -- Hecla Mining Co. says that federal regulators will not issue a potential pattern of violations order against the Lucky Friday Mine.

The Mine Safety and Health Administration had indicated the PPOV order was a possibility after a series of accidents in the Silver Valley mine in 2011.

But the agency has notified Hecla that the PPOV is not required, after extensive efforts to improve safety at the underground mine. A PPOV order can give federal regulators extensive control over operations of a mine for safety reasons.

The Lucky Friday resumed operations in the first quarter of this year.

The mine was closed for over a year after three accidents that killed two miners and injured seven others.
