MOSCOW, ID -- Police say a former University of Idaho Student raped a woman after a party on the U of I campus over the weekend.
Moscow police say 21-year-old Jesse Vierstra is in the Latah County Jail after the Saturday night assault.
Detectives say Vierstra and the victim knew each other, and left the same party together before the alleged incident.
The victim knew the suspect from working with him in Twin Falls at a restaurant, so they were acquainted, but on a friendship level only, said Moscow Chief of Police David Duke.
Police said that when the two went outside they started kissing and once they were alone, Vierstra forced the victim to the ground and sexually assaulted her behind the Sigma Chi Fraternity house. The victim told her family about the incident, and they reported it to the police around 2 a.m. Sunday.
After interviewing the victim and other involved parties, police contacted Vierstra and asked him to come to the station. According to police, he invoked his rights during an interview with officers and was arrested on one account of rape and booked into the Latah County Jail.
His arraignment was scheduled for Tuesday.
Vierstra is a former U of I student from Twin Falls.
