BOISE -- The parent company of the Boise-based Albertson's grocery stores could have a new buyer soon.

The Bloomberg news agency is reporting Supervalu has attracted interest from billionaire Ronald Burkle, along with other buy-out firms.

The chain has lost more than $2.5 billion over the past two fiscal years.

Joe Albertson opened his trademark grocery store in 1939 on State Street in Boise.

The company eventually merged with other national retail chains, and grew to over 2,000 stores by the late 1990s.

Albertson's was then purchased by a consortium of investors, including Supervalu, in 2006.
