KETCHUM, Idaho -- Officials at a central Idaho school district that includes the resort communities of Sun Valley and Ketchum say about 40 percent of students in the district this year will qualify for free or reduced--price meals paid for by the federal government.

The Idaho Mountain Express reports that the Blaine County School District has an annual enrollment of about 3,400 students, with about 1,360 that will receive federal assistance to eat at school.

District Communications Director Heather Crocker says that's a big increase from a few years ago when about 30 percent of students qualified. Crocker says the numbers fluctuate from month to month as family incomes vary due to seasonal employment
