BURLEY, Idaho -- A 29-year-old south-central Idaho man charged with first-degree murder in the death of his 25-year-old wife has been deemed not competent to assist in his own defense.

The Times-News reports that 5th District Judge Rick Bollar on Friday postponed further proceedings in the case following the psychiatric evaluation report on Jose Antonio Lara.

Joann Lyn Lara was found dead on the couple's bedroom floor on Jan. 9. Jose Lara was charged the next day after an autopsy determined she had been strangled.

Police say the couple's 4-year-old child was home at the time of the death, while their 7-year-old was at school.

Both children have been placed in state custody.

The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare has 90 days to prepare a treatment for Lara.
