MIDDLETON - Traffic was blocked for about seven hours Wednesday near Middleton after a semi truck carrying a load of tortillas rolled on eastbound Interstate 84.

The crash happened at about 6:40 a.m. Wednesday between the Sand Hollow Exit and Middleton.

Idaho State Police say 32-year-old Michael McDaniel of Puyallup, Wash. fell asleep at the wheel. The truck veered off the road, and overturned when McDaniel steered back toward the interstate.

All lanes of the eastbound interstate were shut down and traffic was diverted around the crash scene on to Old Highway 30.

McDaniel was wearing his seatbelt when the crash happened. He was taken to the West Valley Medical Center in Caldwell with minor injuries.

Reed Hollinshead with the Idaho Transportation Department says the tortillas are very heavy and they had to be loaded off the truck first before it could be put upright.

Police dispatch says the scene was cleared around 1:30 p.m. and eastbound traffic is flowing normally again.

The crash remains under investigation.
