BOISE -- A helicopter is on its way to rescue a Meridian family found safe after they were reported missing.

The family had gone hunting for the day on Sunday and were expected to be back by 4 p.m. but never returned home.

Colonel Tim Marsano with the Idaho National Guard says an Apache helicopter crew spotted 34-year-old Steven Rice, his wife, 33-year-old Heather Rice and their two teenage children at the Graham Bridge Campground on Forest Service Road 312 Monday evening. That's in Elmore County.

The family told the helicopter crew that they were doing well and that they were stuck because of a mudslide that was covering the road.

However, officials say since the Apache helicopter is a 2-seat aircraft, they weren't able get the family out at the time, but the soldiers were able to leave the family a survival kit which included food, water, cold weather gear, and a shelter.
