GOODING -- Fire crews are working to a get a handle on a fast-growing wildfire burning in sagebrush and grass about 18 miles north of Gooding.

The Fir Grove Fire was first reported at about 1:30 Sunday afternoon and quickly grew in size thanks to driving winds, BLM spokesman Josh Olsen said.

The fire is now estimated at about 7,143 acres.

Olsen tells KTVB that multiple structures in the area were threatened for a time, including some ranches and outbuildings, but those structures are no longer threatened and none burned as a result of the fire. Olsen said there were no mandatory evacuations in effect, but some residents decided to leave their homes as a precaution Sunday.

Olsen said the fire has reached the Thorn Creek Reservoir.

Officials say the fire is estimated to be 50 percent contained, with full containment estimated to occur Tuesday at 8 p.m.
