SANDPOINT, Idaho. -- Sgt. Kevin Bennett made one last trip back to Idaho.

Fellow officers escorted the body of the Idaho State Patrol Sergeant in a procession along I-90 from Seattle to Sandpoint Thursday. Bennett, 36, died earlier in the week after battling a rare form of cancer.

I have to tell you he's one of the finest men, fathers, husbands and troopers you'll ever meet, said Susan Braniff, a friend of Sergeant Bennett.

Braniff and other friends, fellow law enforcement officers and firefighters lined the overpasses along the interstate as the car carrying Bennett s body passed through.

It's really cool to see everyone come out here in support, said Alyssa Rouse, whose father worked with Sergeant Bennett.

Especially since my dad's worked with him and it's just cool to see that if my family was in this position and if it was my dad that passed away, they'd be showing that same support for him.

Bennett leaves behind a wife and three children.

The Bennett memorial fund was set up for his family. People can make donations at any Wells Fargo.
