BOISE -- The quest for better health in the Gem State is getting a nod and downward dog from Governor C.L. Butch Otter.
Well, figuratively speaking.
The Governor's Office plans to proclaim June 3 - 9 Idaho Health and Yoga Awareness Week.
While the governor himself is tied up in meetings, Lieutenant Governor Brad Little will conduct the official proclamation ceremony at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
What does that mean?
In many cases, free or reduced-cost yoga classes throughout Boise and greater Idaho. It also means a mass yoga class on Saturday at 10 a.m in front of the Idaho Statehouse. More than 250 people are expected.
Participating yoga studios and businesses include:
- Bikram Yoga Boise
- Boise River Time Yoga
- Boise Yoga Center
- Eagle Yoga House

Naomi Jones teaches at Bikram Yoga in Boise. The 41-year-old used to be a pharmaceutical sales representative. She's now the driving force behind organizing the week-long celebration.
I wanted to create it because yoga is still a bit misunderstand in terms of a way to achieve a healthy lifestyle, Jones told KTVB.
My thing is that there's a lot of sick people out there and yoga can improve their health.
Jones says about 150 free Yoga classes will be offered throughout the state of Idaho in conjunction with the event, and about 50 yoga instructors are volunteering their time.
