Residents were being evacuated Wednesday after landslides damaged one home and threatened or isolated two dozen more in Coupeville on Whidbey Island.
It happened around 4:15 a.m. along Driftwood Way, but also affected homes on Fircrest Avenue.
Neighbors reportedly heard a noise that sounded like thunder or a sonic boom.
Seven homes were threatened and 17 more are isolated. Witnesses said Driftwood Way was not passable by vehicle. Nobody was hurt.
Residents of threatened homes could be seen walking to the edge of the slide while others were packing up belongings.
