NAMPA -- After years of waiting, the new public safety building in Nampa will be open for a public tour today.
Nampa Police Chief LeRoy Forsman says the old building was running out of room. He says the new building will help centralize operations.
One of the big things is that we can make this our base of operations, he said.
Departments began moving into the $16 million building in January.
In the future, Forsman says the department hopes to add a DNA crime lab in the basement.
The new building will house police, fire administration, dispatch and IT.
It's dedicated to Hugh Nichols who died in 1931. He is the first officer in the Nampa Police Department to ever be killed in the line of duty.
Members of Hugh Nichol's family were on hand to present his badge, revolver, and holster for display in the lobby.
