BOISE -- The U.S. Attorney's Office in Idaho says a Middleton man and his ex-wife have been sentenced to two years of probation after pleading guilty to illegally shipping live corals to buyers around the world.

Christopher Kay Conk and Deidra Davison of Star were sentenced after pleading guilty to trafficking wildlife and violating the Endangered Species Act. Conk also pleaded guilty to smuggling goods from the United States.

Prosecutors said Conk owned and operated Coral Fanatics LLC, a web-based retailer. Conk shipped coral internationally without a license, misrepresented what was in the packages and shipped coral that was protected by international treaties.

Federal wildlife officials became aware of Conk and Davison after one of their suppliers was arrested for illegally harvesting coral in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.
