STAR -- An 8-year-old boy remains hospitalized after being struck by a pickup Monday evening in Star.

Ada County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the wreck in the Star Mercantile parking lot on West State Street near North Main Street. at about 5:30 p.m.

Deputies say the pickup truck was pulling into the lot at a slow speed, when a 8-year-old boy came out from in between two parked cars and in front of the truck.

KTVB talked to the driver of the truck, who said that it happened so fast, and he wasn't able to stop in time. Officials say witnesses gave similar statements.

The boy was still in the hospital Tuesday but the Ada County Sheriff's Office told us his condition is improving. His injuries are not life-threatening and family members say he is doing much better today. The boy is expected to be moved from the ICU to a regular hospital room soon.

The investigation is ongoing. An accident reconstruction team will be coming in to make sure deputies know exactly what happened.

Deputies remind parents to pay close attention to their children's whereabouts.
