MERIDIAN --Ada County Paramedics and the Meridian Fire Department came to the rescue early Friday morning when a woman's car caught on fire.

The incident started on westbound Interstate 84 near Black Cat Road at about 2:30 a.m.

That's when the woman called emergency dispatchers, telling them she was going into labor and her vehicle was on fire.

Dispatchers say she was outside the car when the ambulance arrived, and wasn't hurt. She was taken to a local hospital as firefighters extinguished the flames. Because the woman's name has not been released, officials could not disclose whether she safely delivered the baby after reaching the hospital.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
