BOISE -- We have a happy update to pass along. Many of the 77 rescue dogs that were recently flown to Idaho from California were adopted over the weekend.

The Idaho Humane Society held a special adoption event and officials say about 60 of dogs were among 103 pets adopted from the PetSmart store near the Boise Towne Square Mall.

So we have a little over a dozen of those dogs still looking for homes. A few of them are here at the shelter; most are at the PetSmart adoption center. Overall, it was a great, great adoption weekend, said Hannah Parpart with the Idaho Humane Society.

She says the number of cats coming in to the shelter is starting to rise, so that will be the next emphasis in the society's adoption specials.
