GARDEN VALLEY--The search for a man who went missing in Boise County near the Payette River Friday has been called off.

Dean Eric Christianson, 43, disappeared during a trip to the Skinny Dipper Hot Springs. His two companions say he left to fill up his canteen at the river, and never returned.

After the call for help came in Friday afternoon, the Boise County Sheriff s Office, Garden Valley Fire, Air St. Luke s and Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue searched from the water, riverbanks and air, but came up empty.

Chief Deputy Dale Rogers said the search for Christianson has been called off.

We're not actively searching at this time, he said. We haven't been able to locate anything. The water is extremely high and fast. I'm assuming that if he went in the water, it could be some time before the body comes back up.

Rogers said the man didn't necessarily go into the river. But searchers found dollar bills in the river Friday evening that may have come from Christianson, and the outlook is grim.

If he went in the water, our assumption is there won't be a good outcome, Rogers said.

Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue coordinator Rod Knopp said a team of 14 from the group combed the riverbanks Saturday. The freezing cold, dangerously swift water of the Payette complicated the search, he said.

We did have two members with kayaks who were available, should they need to go in the water, but the search was just from the banks, Knopp said.

He says Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue teams are ready to jump back into action if they are need.

We don t have anybody out there today, Knopp said. We re available, should they find anything at all.
