NAMPA -- Nampa Police say they have made an arrest in a case involving counterfeit $5 bills showing up at local merchants.

Detectives have been investigating numerous reports of phony money being passed at local stores.

On Saturday night, officers were called to a store where a man was trying use a fake $5 bill.

Police arrested 37-year-old Jason Janes of Nampa. Officers say Janes was in possession of more counterfeit $5 bills, and admitted to making the phony money and using it at local stores over the last two weeks.

Janes is charged with possession of fictitious bills, possession of counterfeiting apparatus and burglary. He was booked into the Canyon County Jail.

He will be arraigned Tuesday afternoon.

Nampa Police believe there is still counterfeit money circulating in the area and encourage anyone who finds it to report it to Nampa Police at 465-2257 or Crime Stoppers at 343-COPS.
